Effects of Stroke to Bore Ratio on Exergy Balance in Spark Ignition Engines

This study aims to investigate theoretically the effects of stroke bore ratio on exergy balance in spark ignition (SI) engines. For this purpose, a two–zone quasi–dimensional cycle model was developed for SI engines without considering complex calculation fluid dynamics. The combustion process is simulated as turbulent flame entrainment simulation. Principles second law thermodynamics were applied order perform (or availability) analysis. variations exergetic terms and irreversibilities throughout investigated part analyzed depending ratio. results showed that variation have significant terms, efficiencies. Exergy transfer with work increases, while heat decreases increasing maximum increment about 12.5% decrement 11.25% 1.3 compared 0.7. Irriversibilities exhaust decrease decrements are 3.1% irriversibilities 4.9% first efficiencies increase, brake specific fuel consumption increase increments 12.3% 11.3%
